Building Musicians From the Beginning
Middle school band gives students the opportunity to learn an instrument, develop music-reading skills, perform as part of an ensemble, and prepare for continued participation in music throughout middle school and high school.
About the Band Program
Beginning Band
Beginning band introduces students to instrument fundamentals, proper tone production, music reading, rehearsal procedures, and ensemble performance. No prior musical experience is required.
Intermediate and Advanced Band
Continuing students build stronger technical skills, expand their musical vocabulary, rehearse more advanced literature, and prepare for concerts, assessments, and other performance opportunities.
Percussion
Percussion students develop skills on concert percussion instruments while learning rhythm, technique, music reading, ensemble awareness, and equipment responsibility.
Performance Opportunities
Students may participate in school concerts, community performances, honor ensembles, assessments, clinics, and other opportunities based on grade level, readiness, and the annual calendar.

Preparation, attendance, instrument care, and meeting performance expectations.
Working together, listening across the ensemble, and supporting fellow musicians.
Performing for others and growing through practice, feedback, and achievement.
Participation and Expectations
Students are expected to attend scheduled rehearsals, concerts, assessments, and other required events for their ensemble. Regular practice, preparation, and responsible care of instruments and materials are important parts of participation.
Families should review the current course information and band handbook for specific requirements involving attendance, uniforms, instruments, supplies, performances, grading, and communication.
